Garden - Watercan shaped card with die cuts and flower quilling

Today I made a small shaped card as a thank you to my sweetie for all the work he has done making our home look great outside. He has tamed a neglected garden we inherited when we bought the house. I made a watering can into a small card with a garden themed message.

This small card features a Sizzix Bigz die, dies and stamps from Impression Obsession, Cosmic Shimmer, Simon Says Stamp ink, and Distress ink.

Putting It Together

I haven't done a shaped card for a while so I wanted to do something a bit different than the simple shaped cards I've done before. I went looking through my stash and the watering can reminded me I wanted to make a garden themed card for my sweetie.

I used Cosmic Shimmer to add a metallic colour to a panel of heavy cardstock.  This colour is Silver Hessian but is a lot more coppery than I would have expected. However, it is a rather lovely colour and perfect for the watering can. Cosmic Shimmer is water-based but, once dry, not water reactive. It dries within seconds on paper, even when applied heavily. It goes on smoothly with a lovely creaminess and each bottle conveniently comes with its own blender in the lid. I picked up three colours on clearance and fell in love. Now to find more of them..

I die cut the watering can and aged it with Distress ink: Black Soot, Iced Spruce, Broken China, and Rusty Hinge.

I used a wet wipe to mottle the distressing. I used a strip of scrap to keep my finger markings out of the finish.

I smeared Micro Glaze over the watering can to seal the Distress ink which sitting on the surface of the Cosmic Shimmer.

To make a card base, I placed the watering can on a card base with part of the can overlapping the fold.

I traced around the can with a pencil...

...and fussy cut the traced base. Since some of it would be visible, I coloured the card base front with Tumbled Glass.

I dry fit a stamp for the inside and decided to cross the fold because of the confined space.

Dry fitting the watering can with the card base, I realised parts of it would be visible from the back. It would have been easier to create a second watering can or to have coloured it on both sides, but I decided to die cut pieces for the visible areas out of the left over scrap from the original cut.

I adhered the pieces to the back of the can.

For decoration on the front, I made some flowers from an Impression Obsession die and quilling tool.

I added a couple flowers I made to the front of the card.

For the inside, I stamped the sentiment and a decorative flower with Simon Says Stamp dye ink.
